Word On the Street: What Black Men Think About Your Hair
1 of 15 Word On the Street: What Black Men Think About Your Hair We were curious. We wanted to know what men really thought about our hair. Do they care if we add a few pieces here and there? Would they kick us to the curb if we chopped it all off on a whim? ESSENCE.com hit the streets of New York City to find out. These are their sometimes hair-raising responses. Ladies, take note or (not). Edited By: Marcia Caster

@ let keep it real...Wow you must really HATE women who wear weaves...lol that sh*t is crazy it is not that serious! Do you have a Weave Phobia? Grown women can wear their hair anyway they choose. Did someone with a weave beat you up or something? There are women who wear weave one week, and their real hair the next. Some wear it all the time, and who cares? Maybe you need a weave to protect your brain from letting all that "Craziness" out!!LMAO |

I'm a beautiful 31 year old african-american female who recently started wearing her own hair , I started wearing extensions because when I first started recieving relaxers i didn't know that I wasn't suppose to get in pool after getting a relaxer and my hair started coming out , I learned my lesson from that , So started wearing extensions because I was self conscious , I wasn't necessarily worried about what a man would think ( I'm married to a wonderful man) who wasn't neccessarily turned off by me wearing extensions , To me it's how YOU feel about yourself ...To each it's own........besides I'm the one thats PAYING for the salon visit. |

"Who cares what they think? That's the problem with so many pitiful black women now. constantly worrying about black men and not repsecting themselves or what they want." What a black man thinks of me is highly important. Who cares what you think! If my man has a preference I am going to do what pleases him anything to make him happy. He pleases me all the time. |

Who cares what they think? That's the problem with so many pitiful black women now. constantly worrying about black men and not repsecting themselves or what they want. To hell with them and their opinions of black women. Too bad the black media is 20 years behind on this antiquated way of thinking. Screw what they think!!! |

Well I don't why someone would'nt want someone else to wear a weave. I mean it's not like we have beautiful hair like our caucasian counterparts. A lot of sisters are not blessed with long hair, even if it's pretty. As long as the weave is fried, dyed, and laid to the side like it ought to be it should be okay. Then some sisters have to commit to perms the rest of their lives just to get long hair. One sad truth is if you want long pretty hair you have to be mixed with some other culture. Because back when blacks were slaves, we did'nt get the nutrition needed for healthy hair anyway. |

I guess, we now know what some of these black men are thinking when it comes to we black women and our hair (smile) It's refreshing that some of them admit that they have preferences in hair textures, lengths and authenticity, the same as we too, as black women, have our preferences. However, sometimes those preferences don't show up in the people we ultimately choose as life partners. |

I would have to say that grown women should do what they want with their hair b/c when it comes down to it, it is more about self-esteem than anything else. If a woman looks in the mirror and feels comfortable in her own skin, then it should not matter whether she wears her hair natural or adds extensions. Hair should be clean, neat and maintained regardless of whether it is real or not. As for the black men that want to run their fingers through hair, let me give you something to think about: your woman has long, beautiful hair and it is hers from the root to the ends. Then she gets sick and loses her hair due to treatment. What do you do? So when do men start to realize what qualities in a good woman are more important? |

Walk into any pharmacy ARE ASIAN beauty supply store and you'll weave everywhere and black women eat that s hit up just to net a man who doesn't want them. You will be by yourself if you keep that weave in your hair. |
