Power Couples On the Move
1 of 23 The President and First Lady The Obamas have raised the bar for Black love. Long before this couple resided at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, they were breaking down barriers individually and collectively. From Mrs. Obama’s awe-inspiring story of taking a chance on a funny-named intern to the way the Commander-in-Chief looks at his better half, this couple reminds us that beside every great man, there definitely is a great woman. Meet the 22 other couples that made our list of Black power couples to watch.

I'm amazed at all the comments regarding "race" rather than the couples themselves. It's funny how we spend so much time on race rather than looking at the bigger picture. The title states "Power Couples on the Move" not Black Power Couples on the Move. How about we congratulate them on their efforts of making their union work regardless of race. Can we stay on track and comment about the Power Couples and not their race, or how stupid you think one is for staying committed to her union even though it was once broken by her husband. And for those that want to complain about Essence selling out, you can solve your own problem by not logging on to their site or purchasing their magaizine. They're not begging you to read what they've printed, it's you who made the choice to read. These are just my thoughts....onelove! |

The title is called Power Couples on the Move, not Black Power Couples on the Move (its assumed anyway as this story is on the Essence website). Who gives a damn if Robin Thicke isn't black, the article is talking about COUPLES!!! And they couldn't list everyone! |

It saddens me to see that people are soley focused on race regarding this article. I thought it was titled, "Power Couple on the Move" - but maybe I'm missing something. I am also sadden to see that Bill & Camille, Denzel & Paula are not listed as well. |

It's just so sad that our Ancestor of yesterday that were brought over here of pure African heritage had their blood spoiled and tampered with and today have such identiy struggles within their own culture. Yet society will force justification and reasoning for this wrong doing and Blacks of today are still tortured by this seed that was planted in a community years ago!!! We find scriptures to quote to try and satify wasteful anger from a platform that was already set years ago!! A DIVIDED CULTURE! It's another set up to erase a race that God himself has created! Man's lust and lonelyness will not allow us to see what evils we are causing upon one another and it's genocide!! Genocide takes on many forms and it seems as though we are tangled up in it!!! Not a parinod statement, but a concern growing matter in a seemed to be lost community!!! |

Hasn't it always been that you are identified as being black if you have any amount of African or African American blood or heritage? During slavery, were the people who were born having a African mother and a white father allowed to drink from the same fountain as white persons? No, we of black heritage have to realize that we are a race of people who have today become a race of mixtures. How many of us are of pure African heritage living in America today? |

It does say that this is a list of "Black" power couples to watch, but why is it that some people feel that because you are half or a percentage white or another race you are not considered black? What does it really matter anyway? There are many mixtures of races in the United States today. What does it matter that President Obama, Boris Kodjoe, Nicole Ari Parker, Mariah Carey, Paula Patton and Kimora Lee Simmons are of mixed races. Probably Atty. Holder and his wife, Tonya Lewis, Beyonce' and many other black people in America have a percentage of two or more races. |

I understand that these are "power couples on the move" and many loving and inspiring couples photos did not appear but I'm sure that it was not due to them being ignored. Maybe they made mention of couples that are currently often in the public eye and recently have accomplished something to inspire or benefit others. Otherwise I would wonder why they didn't picture Bill and Camille Cosby who have been married since 1964, raised 6 children together, have donated millions of dollars to black colleges and universities and have been inspiring many of us for many years. |

When are we going to realize that love does not come in skin color? Love comes from the heart. Cookie Johnson showed this kind of love, when she forgave her husband and went about the business of strengthening her relationship with him because as the bible states, "above all, love deeply because love cover over a multitude of sins" 1 Peter 4:8. All that God requires of a man is that he love his wife as Christ love the Church, and that is that he gave his life for it. I am so bless that my husband does not constantly remind me that I am of mixed race. He does tell me daily that he loves me. We need to start looking at the heart and not the color of someones skin. If all these couples truly love one another, this is the power of there relationship, not how much money they have. God bless you all. Minister Sharon Allen |

Thank you Essence for highlighting MARRIED couples, as opposed to the dysfunctional, celebrity baby mama/daddy couples you appeared to focus on in recent weeks. We need to get our morals out of the toilet and show society that African-Americans do value and respect MARRIAGE, an honorable, God-ordained institution. |

I clearly says: "Meet the 22 other couples that made our list of Black power couples to watch". It also states "The Obamas have raised the bar for Black love".
