I think this conversation of good hair vs. bad hair is despicable who are you people? The idea of hair is just an extension of who you are as a person. That be it real or fake. It about what makes the individual feel good. I am from African descent and yes my hair is kinky and course. I am currently natural and I love my natural, because of the humidity and heat and a chance to allow my hair to rest from styling tools, I got a weave! Yes, I love it. When I'm tired I will change back to my natural. I can embrace the many faceted's of beauty and my blackness because "I AM NOT MY HAIR"! Ladies let's get it together and stop being so critical. Peace*Love*and HAIR Grease |

We are black beautyful women!! Why are we so afraid of who we are and always want to look like somebody else? We should be grateful for who we are and stopped placing our values on outward appearances. The truth of the matter, good hair, bad hair only exist in your mind. Place there by ignorance. Value who you are as a woman no by your looks but for what you can offer society and what values you can bring into a world that is rapidly going down the tract. There are more important life and death issues in this world than to be concern on what your hair looks like. Be yourself, be natural, be beautiful, be courageous, be strong, be educated, be compassionate, be forgiving...try all these...it will make your hair grow. You are not your hair. The looks of your hair does not determine who you are... |

The fact of the matter is that nobody is spending alot of money with somebody. Us as black americans are nobody in the billion dollar industry. We are simply the dumb pawns that fall into the trap of what is white is right. Why do we continue to spend much on hair, all the while usually neglecting the natural God given. Take care of what is yours and be happy with what you have. I think it's ignorant that so much emphasis is put into weave and such. I personally don't wear weave because I know the damage it does to the real hair and scalp. Wake up black folks. Robbing peter to pay the asian hair supply. Stupid is as stupid does. |

This is so ridiculous. Why are we getting behind airing dirty laundry that most of us don't even care about anymore. It's tring to make it look like we are still focusing on this type of thing - don't they know there is a recession going on outside? Gosh black people have soooo many other things we are dealing with - WHY do some wish to pull us back by pretending that this is something important. Chris is trying to make a buck - fine get your money - but please let's not make this bigger than it is. |

it is very possible that this is all oprah's hair. don't we realize that our hair has different textures throughout. i have a friend who had long hair like that as well. she wasn't mixed with indian (as we like to say) and she had long gorgeous hair. what we have to realize is when we perm our hair and then go back to natural hair or press and curl our hair we create different textures. so every strand on your head is not the same texture (especially if you've done a lot of stuff to it over the years). people used to comment on my friends hair and even ask her where she got her weave. no weave honey it is all mine. many of us can grow our hair if we really do right by it. i am just as chocolate as they come and i've had hair well past my shoulders. it's not impossible. |

I'm very happy for Chris and his movie. However we all know what good hair is. It curls. It shines with oil. Its easier to style. Bad hair is hard. Its kinky not curly. It looks uniform and does not wave. No one likes nappy hair. Dam get over it. |

I would like to respond to Randa's comment. How do you know that's not Oprah's hair? Are you her personal stylist? It is so amazing to me that people think when they see an African American woman with long hair, especially a darker complected one, that she must be wearing a wig or weave. I am a darker complected African-American with naturally long hair and I get looks all the time. People ask me if it's mine and they want to touch it- and I let them. I am not trying to brag, I don't believe in good hair or bad hair. Hair is just hair and if you take care of it, it can be beautiful no matter the lenght or texture. I just want people to recognize that everyone is not the same. Just because some people wear extensions or wigs to achieve the look they want, doesn't mean every African American woman with long, thick hair does so. |

Why is it so hard to believe that a black woman can have long hair without it being a weave? Not every black person is the same. Hair growth depends on the person and how they take care of themselves and hair. There are a lot of non black women who can't grow long hair and wear weaves. Stop being so cynical! |

People, Where do we accept the notion that African American women hair can't grow beyond our earlobes? As aformementioned, black people have hair textures of all types. And if we had someone addressing our haircare needs on a daily basis like Oprah, our hair could and would grow that long too. Be encouraged!
